AI credits
Optional, and only if you use them
The AI assistant is metered in credits so there's no subscription attached to it. Everything else in RoboDB works without ever touching them.
Credits don’t expire and work on the free tier too. Most requests cost 1 credit; the deeper slow-query analysis costs 5. You get 10 to start, and Pro includes 100. Credits are held on the Mac that bought them — see the FAQ below.
Questions
Is Pro a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time in-app purchase of $99.99. There is no renewal, no monthly fee and no expiry. It is a non-consumable purchase, so you can restore it on your other Macs and it supports Family Sharing.
What can I actually do on the free tier?
Connect to up to three databases and use them properly — browse and edit data, work in the SQL editor with autocomplete and Visual EXPLAIN, manage users, watch the process list, run the diagnostics, and import or export per table (exports are capped at 100 MB per file). The transfer engine, Tune, backup and restore, applying a Schema Diff, server vitals and Performance Schema are Pro. Running destructive SQL against a connection you have marked production also needs Pro — reading it is free.
Do I need AI credits to use RoboDB?
No. The assistant is entirely optional and every other feature works without it. You get 10 credits to try it; after that you can buy a pack or simply ignore it.
Do credits expire?
They don’t expire — but be aware of where they live. Because RoboDB has no account, credits are held against the Mac that bought them, so they don’t move to a second Mac and won’t survive a clean reinstall. Pro itself does restore and Family Shares; its 100 included credits are granted once per purchase. If you lose credits to a reinstall, contact us from Help & Support in the app.
What does a credit buy?
One request. Most things — chat, natural-language to SQL, explaining a query or an error — cost a single credit. The deeper slow-query analysis, which uses a larger model, costs 5.
Which databases are supported?
MySQL 5.7, 8.0 and 8.4, MariaDB 10 through 12, and PostgreSQL. Managed and compatible flavours are labelled where the server identifies itself — Amazon RDS and Aurora, Percona, Google Cloud SQL for PostgreSQL, CockroachDB, YugabyteDB, TimescaleDB and Citus. Anything else connects fine and shows as plain MySQL or PostgreSQL.
Is PostgreSQL support equal to MySQL?
Not yet, and we'd rather say so. PostgreSQL covers connecting, browsing, editing, the SQL editor, Visual EXPLAIN and transfer. The deeper diagnostic tools — Tune, Index Advisor, the schema linter, foreign-key integrity and user management — are MySQL and MariaDB only.
What do I need to run it?
macOS 26 or later. RoboDB is distributed through the Mac App Store and sandboxed by macOS.
I bought RoboDB years ago. Do I pay again?
No. RoboDB 2.0 is a free update on the same Mac App Store listing, and a previous purchase is recognised when you launch it and unlocks Pro. The app will offer to import your saved connections on first run — if anything doesn't come across, get in touch from Help & Support inside the app and we'll sort it out.
How do refunds work?
Purchases go through Apple, so refunds are handled by Apple rather than by us. Use reportaproblem.apple.com.
